A Morganfield
resident who was wanted on various charges with the Vanderburgh County, Ind.,
Sheriff's Office was captured at an apartment complex Wednesday evening as he
was attempting to jump out of a second-floor window. Steven R. Sigler, 21, was
captured at Holly Park Apartments in Morganfield, 724 East Lyon Street,
around 5 p.m. after police received an anonymous tip that he was armed and at
the complex with his girlfriend, according to Lt. Col. Jeff Hart of the
Morganfield Police Department. The apartment building
where Sigler was located was evacuated because police were led to believe he
was armed and dangerous, but when police entered the apartment where Sigler
was staying, no weapons were found. "He did try to jump
out of a second-floor window and we apprehended him ... (as) he was literally
hanging out the window ... and yanked him back into the building," Hart
said. "He was trying to go out the window when we entered the room."
Police allegedly found
equipment used to manufacture methamphetamine and a small quantity of
marijuana in the apartment where Sigler was located. No one was injured in
the arrest. Sigler was charged with
being a fugitive from justice from Indiana, possession of marijuana and
possession of drug paraphernalia. He was lodged in the Union County Jail. His
charges in Indiana include escape from a correctional facility, probation
violation, trafficking in cocaine and possession of marijuana. Bond had not
been set as of 7 p.m. Wednesday, Hart said. The Union County Sheriff's
Department, Webster County Sheriff's Department and the Kentucky State Police
also helped in Sigler's arrest. Hart also wanted to thank the residents of
Holly Park Apartments for their cooperation. |
